A Long Walk to PLGA with Kinam Park
Plenary Session 1
Date/Time: Sunday, July 22, 2018 - 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM
One of the important research areas in the drug delivery field is development of long-acting injectable depot formulations based on biodegradable poly(lactide-co-glycolide) polymers (PLGAs). Since the introduction of the first depot suspension in 1989, only about two dozen injectable formulations have been developed. Characterization of PLGAs and PLGA formulations, and thus, development of new depot formulations, has been challenging. The progress made in understanding PLGAs over the last few decades is used as an example of how the drug delivery field in general has evolved. It also provides a tool to assess how we can move the field forward more efficiently.
